| Merenge is a social dance from the Dominican Republic. Originally a guitar style, since the 1940's it has been played in an ensemble consisting of an accordion, a metal scratcher, and a tambora, a two headed drum held horizontally and played with stick and hand. Merengue is a partner dance sung in Spanish and played at a fast tempo. The tambora rhythm has been adapted to the congas and is often played with one stick. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
